"just" a 90s punk that likes skipping school and getting into fights. Yusuke is a 90s punk that likes skipping school and getting into fights, but he's not The first thing you need to understand if you want to know what makes this show so great is the characters. Thinking something along the lines of "it was probably good back in the 90s, but it feels out of date." The main character felt like a cliche' 90s punk kid and the animation had 20 year old animation that just didn't really appeal to me that much. The first time I tried to watch this show, I dropped it after around 15 episodes.

But yes, YuYu Hakusho is most definitely a masterpiece and has people that rewatch it all the time, begging for more. Nobody asked but, to have a cast as outstanding as YYH has more of a lasting impact. HxH is written with the same execution in mind and I rate it as a 10/10 too I must say. I would say this is shonen looking from the outside in, but the unorthodox way it was executed makes it so universal and special. The premise of YYH is awesome and these arcs take it to a whole new level. Chapter Black and the Dark Tournament arcs are insane. The very ending of the show was heartfelt and a solid conclusion but I can't help but feel the arc itself was not as pronounced as the others. My only gripe would be that yes, the last arc. When you have characters that are written this good across the board, even the minor characters and antagonists, and a great story, everything else is extra goodies. But you really can't mention these awesome fleshed out characters without the dub because the chemistry was that good. In this show are the true embodiment of excellent characters. It's heavy and psychological, it has drama and emotion, mysterious, it's occasionally dark, awesome soundtrack, animation and fights that have aged well to this day, an enjoyment level out of this world, an unmatched English dub, and most importantly, the best characters/cast known to man. It has all aspects of anime and does it well. Some people say yeah it's "one" of the best.NO, the best anime ever. YuYu Hakusho is the top 3 or simply the best anime ever created in my opinion. From the very first 3 unusual episodes of this show, you will notice this show is definitely special.
